Newcomer Holiday Death Tribute Drops Nostalgic "Practice"

The D.C.-Based indie punk band releases their first track, “Practice” on November 3rd.

For those of us missing the distinct 90s punk rock sound, get ready for Holiday Death Tribute. With a sound that is similar to Green Day and Jimmy Eat World, Holiday Death Threat is already looking at establishing themselves in the punk scene.

The band, while still young, having formed in 2019, laments about their first break-up in their time together. Written by lead singer and guitarist Mike Dzambasow and the band’s resident lyricist, Amanda Lin, it tells the story of the band’s break-up through the eyes of the person who left the band. While that idea creates a very tongue-in-cheek expectation, there are layers to the song.

“I grew up classically trained on the piano, went to undergrad for piano and have been playing for 20 years, so most of my life... Now I play guitar in a punk band,” Dzambasow says about the piece. “This song sums up my journey as a musician up to this point.” At its core, it is about the crushing weight of living up to familial expectations. The bridge really hammers that in, with an emotional whining so unique to the punk genre decrying “Is this what you want? Am I good enough?” Holiday Death Tribute has no problem voicing the anxieties that are held in most of our hearts.

The release of this body-moving, head-bumping anthem sets Holiday Death Tribute up for a long and illustrious career in the modern punk scene.

“Practice” is available now on major streaming platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.
