Dot Dash Takes It Back With “16 Again”

D.C. locals Dot Dash compile 16 of the band’s best tracks, and re-releases them with Country Mile Records.

Terry Banks (lead vocalist and guitarist), Hunter Bennett (bassist), and Danny Ingram (drummer) make up the garage-band, pop punk trio that is Dot Dash. After 7 albums, the band with self-proclaimed “no hits” drops this cheeky “greatest hits” record. It showcases the strongest songs in the group’s backlog. Despite their long list of quality releases, the band only has 278 monthly listeners on Spotify. This album feels like the right step in manifestation. By creating this collection of best hits with no hits, it gives new listeners the perfect elevator pitch to become your new favorite band.

Songs like ‘Tense & Nervous’, originally off of their 2022 album, Madman in the Rainwork to revive the pop-punk sound that fueled my teenage years. 16 Again is the best name for the record, reference to Buzzcocks aside. The album transports me to 2016, when I would listen to the music my older brothers would listen to when they were 16. The cycle of pop punk teenage angst is kept alive with this retro reboot. For fans of Green Day, Television Personalities (whose song ‘Jackanory Stories’ is covered on 16 Again), lend your ears to Dot Dash. While 16 Again is the perfect crash course, take time to dive into the rest of the work that they are teasing. I am shocked that they were able to pick 15 of their songs to highlight, when so much more of their work deserves equal imagination. Outside of the band’s picks, I highly recommend ‘Saints / Pharaohs’ from Madman in the Rain.
