“I wrote ‘You’ about finding that special person you end up with for the rest of your life,” said LJR. He notes that he did not have anyone in mind at the time of writingn, “so the lyrics are more about imagining moments with that special person and that connection.”

“You” follows an exceptional lineup of releases from LJR, including love songs “Insecure” and “Need a Little Lovin'”. But “You” offers something special. It gives audiences a glimpse of a side of LJR that we have not seen before, one that draws from deep within and is mature, passionate, and magnetic.

“Yes, this one definitely has a different feel and emotional weight to it,” LJR shared. “The song both connects with the feeling of deep longing for the unconditional love I was seeking in a relationship.”

“You” takes inspiration from LJR’s Hillsong United influence, “which has very powerful hopeful anthemic longing tones to it.”

In terms of the composition, “You” begins intimately with piano, emotive guitar, and vocals — and builds steadily into an epic outpouring that captures the intensity of love. Not to be mistaken for the fleeting kind, LJR’s love is a commitment built to stand the test of time because he is willing to put in the work.

“I was writing from an honest place, not trying to make it the perfect song with clever lyrics or turns of phrase this time. I wanted to communicate a feeling with the emotion in the song more than deliver a specific articulation. And I felt proud of how that came out.”
